The look on her face when I pulled her against me and extended our linked hands almost made me laugh. “I’m leading. This is not the time to do your own thing,” I warned.

I’m barely adequate on a dance floor, but the simple box step suited my purpose. I wanted to feel Zin’s head on my shoulder, and enjoy feeling the rain slip between our bodies, moving aside whenever it encountered a place where her flesh was pressed to mine. The sensation made me want to believe we could move other things aside, and for the same reason, because we were pressed together so tightly, going around us was the path of least resistance.
