Moved to Tears... and Moving!

In the last week, I’ve been heartbroken, outraged, stunned, and thrilled.

That’s a lot of emotion in a short span.

South Carolina is my home. It’s not the place where I was born, but I’ve lived here longer than I think it’s mathematically possible for me to live anywhere else. It’s where I went to college, got married, birthed my babies, and buried my husband.

As events in Charleston unfolded this week, I’ve seen something that’s unique, and it reminded me of why I fell in love with this state in the first place.

People here are gracious.

My heart overflowed as I watched several thousand people hold hands across the Cooper River to honor the slain Emmanuel Nine.

For those unfamiliar with the beautiful city we call the Holy City, the Cooper River is the same river that slave ships sailed to bring their  kidnapped cargo to shore. It’s the cradle of African slavery in the New World. And now, the same spot has led the charge for change. I believe we will take down the Confederate flag. I believe we will open our eyes and we will change.

And by God, if we can change, anyone can change. All across this nation, we can all change.

So, it is with mixed emotions that I announce I’m moving to Georgia with my daughter. Today.

More changes in a life full of them. Change is good, but a bittersweet moment, indeed.

The new cable company can’t install our equipment until July 6th.

Ouch.

On the other hand, by the time we talk again, I should have a(nother) serious chunk of Pedal to the Metal written. I’ll definitely have had time to perfect Turn & Burn, and will post the updated file as soon as I have internet access.

The first few weeks of a book’s life are the most critical. It’s the time I need to be on hand to nurture her, to push her into the world.

I won’t be able to do that this time, so I beg of you, if you love Shelby’s unfolding saga, please, leave a review.

And, maybe even whisper to alike-minded reader to give those nasty Hannah boys a read.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the way you’ve embraced these characters.

Peace,
~E
